It’s spring, which means it’s time to start finalizing your summer vacation plans and getting ready for swimsuit season. Whether you decide to fly off to an exotic locale, or stick around your home base, you’ll definitely want to make sure you set aside some time to enjoy the nice summer weather. Here’s a few summer vacation planning tips that will help you save a little money, and make the most of out your summer vacation:
1. If you’re going to need a flight to your vacation destination, buy your tickets earlier. Summer is prime time for travelling, which means their airlines are only going to increase their prices. If you buy earlier (such as now), you might be able to save a few bucks. If you wait to long and miss the boat, there are always sites like Priceline and Expedia where can you can get some good last minute deals on travel.
2. Before you book a hotel, shop around, and don’t be afraid to haggle. Hotel prices, especially in big cities like New York City, can get out of control during the prime travel season. Make your reservations early, especially if there are any big events going on in town during the week you’ll be there. That way you’ll know you have a room, and won’t get sold out. By grabbing a room earlier, you might also be able to get a better deal than if you waited til just a few weeks before your trip. Check out sites like Expedia, Travelocity, Yahoo Travel, and others to find specials, and make sure you read reviews about the hotel you’ll be staying in to make sure it’s not a dump (unless of course you want to stay in a dump).
3. Stuck at home this summer? Don’t fret, there are plenty of fun activities going on in your area to make your summer a fun one. Search online for local festivals, concerts, and events that would make a fun weekend or weekday activity. You can also look for fun destination spots like theme parks, shopping, and other sites within a reasonable driving distance from your home. Short day-trips can be a blast!
4. Got kids? Make sure you find them lots of fun things to do this summer, like taking them to the beach, amusement park, or swimming. If they like sports, baseball and softball leagues are great recreational activities to keep them active and busy. Summer camps are another fun option to explore, whether it’s just for a few days, for several weeks.
5. The most important tip of all is to have fun. If only you get a day or two to have a “vacation”, make the most of it. Turn off your cell phones, and don’t worry about checking your email. Soak up the sun (with proper sunscreen of course), and enjoy the lazy days of summer.
